Uniting for Change: Conversation on Race 2024 Brings Community Together



As we approach the end of summer the anticipation for our Discussion on Race event is building up! Save the date for October 8th as this years gathering promises to be our engaging and unifying yet.


Exciting news – our keynote speaker will be Dr. Jonathan M. Metzl, a physician, sociologist and author. Dr. Metzl will share insights from his book "Dying of Whiteness " delving into the connections between race, health and politics in America.


Despite its title this conversation is inclusive to all. Dr. Metzls work aims to foster unity than division by encouraging us to reflect on how certain policies influenced by biases can negatively impact all community members regardless of race.


Drawing from his research in parts of America Dr. Metzl uncovers how biased policies have resulted in higher gun related deaths decreased life expectancies and limited educational opportunities. His message is clear; when fear and division steer our choices we all suffer.

This years Discussion, on Race focuses on understanding than assigning blame.

It's about coming to explore how we can develop policies and structures that benefit everyone. It involves acknowledging our humanity and striving for a future where every member of our community can flourish.


Our event will as always offer an respectful environment, for discussions. We'll share a meal fostering connections and friendships among people from backgrounds. There will be opportunities for questions, conversations and importantly for listening and learning from one another.


The richness of our community stems from its diversity and the resilience of our hinges on our capacity to bridge gaps and discover shared values. This years Dialogue on Race is an invitation to do that – to come together to listen attentively to comprehend and to unite in pursuit of transformation.


Whether you've been an attendee or this is your time joining us you are warmly invited. Your voice, your stories and your viewpoints hold significance. Together we can cultivate an fair minded and lively St. Cloud for everyone.
